When the show originated in 1955-1956, it was called Dodge Dancing Party, and so it featured dancing from the very beginning.
During the 1960s, The Lawrence Welk Show was consistently rated as one of the 30 most popular television shows. The Lawrence Welk Show on ABC competed against The Ed Sullivan Show on CBS on Sunday evenings.
The Welk show provided much more dance. Johnny Castle, Penny Johnson and their fellow dancers surely preferred to watch Welk on their Sunday evenings.
The first three dance performances below were broadcast on The Lawrence Welk Show during 1963.
