Mature Couples Dancing an Easy Waltz in the Gazebo

The following videoclip is not in the movie Dirty Dancing. I suppose that it was made as a personal favor to the movie's screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein, who is shown dancing with Patrick Swayze.

Aside from Bergstein and Swayze, the videoclip shows several mature couples dancing an easy waltz. The couples are well dressed and seem to be successful. They seem to be financially comfortable. They seem to be happily married.

Their lives are coasting along easily, as portrayed by the easy waltz.

I do not have a videoclip of the finished movie's corresponding scene, but I have a couple of screenshots. Johnny Castle is dancing with Vivian Pressman.

The couples in the gazebo are dancing a dance that is somewhat more difficult than a waltz. Jake and Marge Pressman are not dancing, because they are waiting for a waltz.

In general, the finished movie's gazebo scene does not feature the mature, successful couples dancing easily in the above videoclip.

The above videoclip could have been inserted into the movie immediately after the scene where Jake and Marge are waiting for a waltz. The gazebo scene would simply be extended. Jake and Marge would wait for a waltz, and then waltz music would be play, and Jake and Marge would dance.Now Johnny Castle would be dancing not with Vivian Pressman, but rather with Eleanor Bergstein.

Suppose that the gazebo scene had been extended thus.

The movie would now include this one short scene that does not include any young people. The youngest character would be Johnny Castle, who is at least in his late twenties. When Swayze made the film, he was 34 years old.

Every other scene in the finished movie includes characters who are in their late teens or early twenties.

This brief scene -- showing mature couples dancing an easy waltz in the gazebo -- would have been an interlude that contrasted with the unsettled lives of young people in the preceding and following scenes.

In the preceding scene, Baby and Houseman are attending a wig demonstration conducted by Penny Johnson. Robbie Gould, who allegedly has made Penny pregnant, invades Penny's wig demonstration in order to meet secretly with Lisa at the golf course at night. Robbie intends to advance to sexual third base with Lisa during that nighttime meeting.

Since Robbie has invaded Penny's wig demonstration, Johnny suddenly shows up in order to intimidate Robbie from troubling Penny.

This wig-demonstration scene is full of tension and trouble. Robbie is seducing Lisa right in front of Lisa, whom he has impregnated. Johnny is menacing Robbie. Lisa is sneaking around with Robbie and is asking Baby to help deceive their parents about her whereabouts that night.

This scene is followed by the gazebo scene, where mature successful couples are leading untroubled, prosperous, happily married lives.

The gazebo scene is followed by the scene where Neil Kellerman is flirting unsuccessfully with reluctant Baby.

Then Baby and Neil see Lisa and Robbie rushing past and arguing about their disastrous sexual encounter at the golf course.

This scene is followed by the kitchen scene, where Baby sees pregnant Penny crying in a corner.

So, the gazebo scene where the mature couples are dancing an easy waltz is followed by a series of scenes that portray the lives of young people as unsuccessful and troubled.

 Maybe sometime in the future, the movie's owners will release an extended version that includes the deleted scenes. If so, then that version should include this scene where mature couples are dancing an easy waltz in the gazebo.
